An unarmed passenger threatened to kill "everyone who is not a born-again Christian" aboard a Delta Air Lines flight and slammed a stewardess to the floor before he was subdued, authorities said Saturday.
Ricky Lavern Berdette, 40, of Greenville, S.C., was charged in federal affidavits Friday with assaulting, intimidating and threatening a flight attendant. Flight 925 from Atlanta to Greenville carried 42 passengers and a crew of five.About halfway through the flight, Berdette told a flight attendant that he would have to "kill everyone who is not a born-again Christian," federal court documents said.
Flight attendants later calmed Berdette, but as the jet approached the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Berdette allegedly tried to storm the cockpit of the DC-9. Federal authorities said the man could have caused the plane to crash if he had succeeded in getting into the cockpit.
