The Utah Valley Choral Society is planning a Choral Composition Competition.

As part of its commitment to choral music, the 60-voice mixed choir will offer the competition to encourage and support composers of this form of music, a press release says. The society hopes to make the competition an annual event. The blind competition is open to any composer, regardless of professional status, residence, age or academic qualifications.

The society will consider all types of music from sacred to light nonsense, to patriotic, to settings of non-English text. All kinds of accompaniment are acceptable.

Winners will receive cash prizes: First, $100, second, $75, third, $25.

All winning compositions will be performed by the Utah Valley Choral Society at a special concert in the Provo Tabernacle in spring of 1991.

Deadline for entries is Dec. 15. A list of rules is available from the Utah Valley Choral Society - Competition, Attn.: Doc Taylor, 542 W. 1720 North, Provo, UT 84601.
