Panguitch City made a great buy on a building that city officials hope may be used to attract industry. The cost was $1.

The building is the former high school on east Center Street. City Manager Bruce Fullmer said the building didn't meet safety standards for a school but passes criteria for other public use. A new building was constructed for the high school after the Utah Fire Marshal termed the one bought by the city unsafe for use as a school. The old high school building at Escalante was previously sold to that city for the same bargain price as the purchase in Panguitch after it was replaced with a new high school by the Garfield School District.

Businesses or industries that may be housed in the Panguitch building will be subject to approval of the school district.
