A heroic hug Gov. Norm Bangerter gives a consoling hug to Mary Leona Broadbent, the wife of firefighter Ralph M. Broadbent, who was killed while battling the fast-moving Wasatch Mountain fire above Midway in August. Broadbent, 64, a Wasatch County public works employee, and Blake V. Wright, 38, a county deputy sheriff, were honored for their heroic efforts that helped save 250 homes in the fire's path. The state of Utah acknowledged the pair's "ultimate sacrifice" with a plaque and a ceremony on Tuesday. Thousands of firefighters from all over the West responded to fight the fire, which charred the hills above Midway and burned some 18 structures before it was controlled.
