Provo's Bruce Brockbank made the cut and stayed in contention at the Western Amateur in Benton Harbor, Mich., Thursday. He fired a 1-over-par 73 to go with his 70 of the previous day and stands in 14th place. Four other local golfers weren't so fortunate as BYU golfers Jonathan Baker and Rafael Ponce missed the cut by one shot and Brad Sutterfield and John Miller missed by three.
At the Pacific Coast Amateur in Denver, the three Utahns who made Wednesday's cut found themselves back in the pack. Todd Barker was at 228, 18 strokes off the pace, while Kurt Bosen stood at 229 and Devin Dehlin at 238.
