A 24-year-old Smithfield man will spend at least 10 years in prison for kidnapping a 17-year-old girl at gunpoint and holding her in his vehicle for more than two hours.

Mark William Tarbet was sentenced Monday in Logan's 1st District Court following his conviction last month on a felony aggravated kidnapping charge.Judge Gordon Low sentenced Tarbet to five years to life in prison, with a mandatory 10-year prison stay because a firearm was used.

Tarbet was convicted on Sept. 29 following a two-day trial during which the victim told a jury that she was abducted May 20 by Tarbet while walking home from church.

Although he asked her to disrobe and threatened to kill himself when she refused, he did not molest her before releasing her, the girl said.
