An unidentified woman whose body was found near I-15 by hunters was the victim of murder, Millard County authorities said.

The state medical examiner's office determined that the woman was shot sometime last spring, Sheriff's Capt. Robert Dekker said Monday.Hunters found the nude body 400 yards east of the freeway Friday about 6 p.m. in a remote area 22 miles south of Fillmore, said Dekker. The body, in an advanced state of decomposition, was lying on top of a ridge covered with junipers.

The victim was 20 to 34 years old, 5 feet 6 inches, with shoulder length or longer blonde hair.

"We're working through fingerprint and dental information on several missing persons, and the reports are coming in hourly," he said. "We've investigated about eight to 10 missing persons that could be the victim."

Police could not say if the woman was killed at the site where the body was found. Dekker said authorities have no suspects in the case.

Dekker said this is the seventh murder victim in 12 years to be found along a 30-mile stretch of I-15 between Fillmore and Beaver.
