Cambodian resistance forces reported the capture of two district towns, and the Phnom Penh government said its forces "put out of action" nearly 200 guerrillas as fighting escalated in northwestern Cambodia.

"Last week, our courageous and brave armed forces launched counterattacks against the enemy's adventurous and aggressive activities to infiltrate some mountainous and remote areas," Phnom Penh radio said in a report broadcast Monday on fighting about 180 miles northwest of Phnom Penh.The government radio said it killed 19 guerrillas and wounded or captured 69 in two encounters.
