Martin Pitayo of Mexico beat Antoni Niemczak of Poland by a step in the Chicago Marathon on Sunday. The pair matched stride-for-stride after they took the lead at the 24-mile mark, but Pitayo lunged forward at the finish to win in 2 hours, 9 minutes and 41 seconds. Portugal's Aurora Cunha took the women's race in 2:30:11.

Utah's Ed Eyestone finished fifth with a personal-best 2:10:59.
