Italy to volleyball finals RIO DE JANEIRO - Italy, with the referee's whistle barely audible over the crowd noise, held off a comeback Saturday to reach the finals of the 12th World Men's Volleyball Championships with a 3-2 victory over Brazil.

The win placed Italy in Sunday's finals, where it will meet the winner of Saturday night's semifinal between Cuba and the Soviet Union. Both the Soviet Union and top-ranked Cuba were undefeated in the tournament entering Saturday's match. Italy lost to Cuba 3-0 in a preliminary match a week ago.
