An employee of a Mrs. Fields Cookie store was arrested Saturday after a customer found metal staples in a cookie, police said.
Michael Steven Connors, 20, of Anaheim was held in the Orange County Jail for investigation of putting harmful matter into food, said Sgt. Ed Falkenstein.Connors, an employee at the Mrs. Fields store in the Mall of Orange, was arrested early Saturday at his home, Falkenstein said.
No injuries were reported, Falkenstein said.
Debbi Fields, president of Utah-based Mrs. Fields Cookies, said in a news release that the staples were found Friday night. She said it was the first such incident in the company's 12-year history.
The company said that all cookies are made at each store in several batches each day, and records show which employee made each batch.
