At least 26 people have been killed in more black factional violence, including 16 gunned down in what appeared to be revenge killings in the black township of Soweto, police said Monday.

Police Lt. Col. Tienie Halgryn said the 16 people in Soweto were killed and 33 wounded in several overnight attacks. Police said the attacks came after an Inkatha supporter was hacked to death and two were injured in Soweto on Saturday.Fighting between Zulu supporters of the Inkatha Freedom Party and Xhosas and other blacks tied to the African National Congress has claimed more than 800 lives in the Johannesburg area since August.

The killings came after 6,000 Inkatha supporters, many carrying spears, clubs and shields, paraded through central Johannesburg on Saturday.
