The dispute between the family and the lawyer of one of two youths accused in the attack and rape of a jogger in Central Park boiled over Monday, with the mother and sister removing themselves as defense witnesses in the case.

The bizarre decision could cripple the defense of 16-year-old Kevin Richardson, whose family previously had said he was coerced into telling police what they wanted to hear about a gang's rampage through the park April 19, 1989.Richardson is on trial with co-defendant Kharey Wise, 18. Both are accused of gang-raping and beating the female jogger and attacking others in the park.
