A small crop of Rosa peaches is ready for public harvest in the Fruita area in the national park.

Orchard Manager Kent Jackson said picking can begin Aug. 12. The orchard will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until all the fruit is picked. The price will be $7.50 per bushel.Jackson said that the peaches of this early crop are small since the trees are heavily laden with fruit. He estimates there are only about 200 bushels available and persons arriving for picking should stop at the visitor center for directions first.

Sales of the fruit help defray costs of maintaining the 3,000-tree orchard.
