Charges of capital homicide and aggravated burglary have been filed against a 26-year-old Denver man accused in the stabbing death of Klea M. Sorenson, 80, Salt Lake City.

Keith Carney was charged Friday in 3rd District Court with one count of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated burglary.According to court documents, Carney returned to the place he was staying Tuesday afternoon with blood on his hands and clothes. The documents also say he was carrying a number of items, including a jewelry box, clock radio/cassette player, wedding ring and a woman's driver's license. Carney also had a large knife.

Police found Sorenson dead on the floor of her home that evening. Her son identified the items as belonging to his mother, documents say.

Police believe that Sorenson was returning home from a midday shopping trip and walked in on a burglary.

He is being held without bail in the Salt Lake County jail.
