Friends of Utah Issues has named Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort and Kathy's Natural Foods as recipients of its annual "Caring in Business Awards."

The awards are presented to corporations or businesses that contribute to the fight against poverty and/or assist the disadvantaged. The companies were honored Thursday at a breakfast at St. Vincent de Paul Center, sponsored by Intermountain Health Care, Cream o'Weber Hi-Land Dairy and Xerox Corp.Snowbird was recognized for hiring the homeless for temporary jobs at the resort. The resort provides transportation and makes meal arrangements for the workers.

The program was developed by Nancy Corrigan, human resources director, and Jodi Campbell, senior recruiter.

Kathy Bauman, co-owner of Kathy's Natural Foods of Holladay, was honored for development of the store's recycling program. Proceeds of the program are donated to Utahns Against Hunger.

Kathy's husband Gregg and Rich Arcaris are partners in the natural foods market.
