A University of Utah student who entered a guilty plea to shooting a gun at another vehicle on I-15 last May was ordered to undergo a 90-day evaluation at the Utah State Prison prior to formal sentencing.
Tom L. Martin, 4547 W. Thayne Drive, entered the pleas last month in connection with an May 17 incident. That night, a 9mm pistol was fired at a car occupied by two women at about 8000 South on southbound I-15. The women were not injured but were showered by debris when the bullet struck their car.Defense Attorney Andrew Valdez asked 3rd District Judge David Young to consider a house arrest situation or a work-release jail sentence for Martin that would allow continued attendance at college classes and part-time employment. Valdez said Martin is actively involved in both individual and family therapy and was making good progress in changing his behavioral problems.
