The Salt Lake Golden Eagles return to home ice tonight, after winning one of three road games during the past two weeks.
The Eagles meet the San Diego Gulls at 7 p.m. in the Salt Palace. After breaking a three-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over the Kansas City Blades Tuesday night, the Eagles lost to the Blades 4-2 Wednesday.
In that game, which was the Blades' first franchise win after six straight losses, the Eagles fell behind 2-0 in the first period and never caught up. They pulled within 3-2 early in the third period and apparently tied the score 3-3 on a shot by Kevin Grant, but the referee waved it off, calling interference on Rich Chernomaz.
"That would have tied the game at 3-3, but instead we're still down a goal and have a man in the penalty box. That was an integral part of the outcome," said Coach Bob Francis.
Francis will be looking for more scoring, particularly from his veterans as the Eagles play the first of seven straight home games.
Chernomaz, last year's third leading scorer, has yet to score a goal. Veteran Randy Bucyk has just two goals and no assists.
Marc Bureau, who sat out Wednesday's game with an injury, leads the team with six points. Rookie Todd Harkins has five points and leads the team with four goals.
San Diego comes in with a 3-5-1 record, after knocking of Phoenix, 2-1, Thursday night. In their last appearance here, the Gulls were shut out 2-0 by goalie Wayne Cowley.
The two clubs play again Saturday at 7 p.m.
