Four Cougars and a pair of Utes, all seniors, have been named this week to the Western Athletic Conference All-Academic team.
Defensive linemen Pete Harston and Rick Wilson of BYU are joined by teammates Andy Boyce, a wide receiver, and Jim Balmforth, an offensive guard on the academic honor squad. The Utes are linebacker Frank Bonifacio and defensive back Bob Bonifacio.Harston, who graduated last summer with a bachelor's in sociology, has a 3.56 grade point average. Wilson, from Provo, has a 3.32 in school health. Boyce, from Salt Lake City, has a 3.72 GPA in advertising/public relations. And Balmforth, from Yuma, Ariz., has a 3.78 in accounting.
Frank Bonifacio, from South San Francisco, Calif., has a 3.38 in accounting and his brother Bob has a 3.35 in biology.
Two other Cougars were named to the All-WAC Academic second team. They are running back Brad Clark and center Bruce Jenne.
Utah had eight players on the second team: quarterback Mick Richmond, running back Steve Abrams, tight ends Greg Hoffman and Stephen Peters, offensive linemen Russ Dailey and Shayne McQuivey, defensive lineman Mike Lewis, and linebacker Preston Christensen.
Hawaii led all schools with five selections on the first team.
