Nursing pioneer Edith Aurora Westerlund Erickson died Aug. 3, 1988 at LDS Hospital following a recent heart operation. She was 79.
Mrs. Westerlund Erickson was head nurse in the Infant Newborn Nursery at LDS Hospital from 1932 to 1938. She then became a supervisor of surgical services and a nursing instructor for the Cadet Nurse Corps from 1941 to 1946.She also was a public health nurse for the Iron and Weber County health departments, a nursing supervisor for Salt Lake General Hospital and an instructor for both the Utah State Department of Vocational Education and Utah Technical College.
She retired in 1972 after 40 years of nursing service.
Mrs. Westerlund Erickson was born July 3, 1909, in Park City to John Axel Westerlund and Ana Evelina Mattson. She married Kenneth Erickson on Nov. 3, 1940. He died in 1949. She married Orlando Daniel Erickson on Nov. 11, 1972.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Funeral services will be Aug. 6 at the Murray 5th LDS Ward Chapel, 495 E. 56th South, at 1 p.m.
