Want to fight drugs in Davis County? Then go to a football game Monday, Oct. 29, at Davis High School.

It's not an average game, though. Local celebrities, civic officials and Davis High athletes will compete in a flag football tournament to benefit the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program.Scheduled to play are Kelly Downs, a Viewmont High alumnus and pitcher for the San Francisco Giants; Bud Scruggs, chief of staff to Gov. Norm Bangerter; Lynn Summerhays, chairman of Davis School Board; and Dan Eastman, a Jeep/Eagle dealer.

Mayors of Davis County cities, political candidates, the McGruff robot and other civic leaders will also participate.

Cost is $4 per family in advance; $5 at the gate. Tickets are available at Winegar's and Bowman's food stores. The game, sponsored by the Davis County PTA Council, will begin at 5:30 p.m.

DARE involves local police officers who work with children in the classroom for 17 weekly sessions, teaching them self-esteem, drug awareness, personal safety and practice as well as resistance techniques to avoid gangs and drugs.
