The fourth annual Great Salt Lake Chili Affair is set for Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the Fairpark Grand Building on the Utah State Fairgrounds. The Chili Affair raises funds to help provide services for the homeless at the Salt Lake Community Shelter and Resource Center, operated by the Travelers Aid Society.
The event begins at 6 p.m. with a silent auction and social hour, followed by the chili judging and sampling at 7:30. The Tempo Timers will provide the evening's entertainment, along with the master of ceremonies, Tami Sanders of KUTV.Local chefs, serving up their favorite chili specialties, are: Roger Cortello of Le Parisien with "Cortello's Chili"; James Tonkovich, Squatters Pub Brewery, with "Turkey Chili"; Dan Joyce, sous chef of the Red Lion, with "Five Pepper Elk Chili"; and Matt Minkevitch, St. Vincent de Paul, with "Anaheim Wonder Chili."
Salt Lake Mayor Palmer De Paulis and Verl R. Topham, president and CEO of Utah Power & Light Co., are honorary co-chairs of the event. Sponsors include AT&T, KUTV Channel 2 and Delta Air Lines.
