Farrel Donald Larsen, Jr., 41 year old Murray, Utah resident, died Monday, Oct 22, 1990, at his home of a sudden illness.
He was born Oct 11, 1949, at Preston, Idaho, the son of Farrel Donald and Lora Elizabeth Hansen Larsen. He received his education and spent his early years in Preston where he graduated from high school in 1967. He worked as a pressman for the Preston Citizen newspaper throughout high school. He served in the Preston Unit of the Idaho National Guard. He attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho on a scholarship from Ford Motor Co. He married Gwen Christensen on March 27, 1976 at Oak City, Utah. A printer by trade, he had worked for American Paper Co., Paragon Press, Stanway-Wheelwright, Printer's Inc., Gottschall's Printing and Engraving, and Service Press. He was employed at the Utah State Prison as an instructor and foreman in the Printing Department. He and his wife founded and were the owners of Weststates Graphics, Weststates Lock Co., and Weststates Leasing in Salt Lake City, Utah. He had received several awards and recognitions in the printing industry for his detail and precision work in layout and printing. Self-taught in repairs of printing presses, he worked with and helped many printers throughout the intermountain area. A member of the LDS Church, he had received his Duty to God Award.Survivors include his wife of Murray; his parents of Preston, Idaho; six brothers, Richard D. Larsen of Boise, Idago; Jerry C. Larsen and Val R. Larsen, both of Preston, Idaho; Joseph W. Larsen of Burley, Idaho; Evan J. Larsen of West Jordan, Utah; and Paul C. Larsen of Weston, Idaho; and his maternal grandmother, Ann G. Hansen of Brigham City, Utah. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, his paternal grandmother, and a son, Clinton Farrel Larsen who died April 8, 1982.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 1990, at the Little Cottonwood LDS 6th Ward Chapel, 6410 South 725 East in Murray, with Bishop Kim Davis, officiating. Burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Friends may call at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State St. in Murray from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and at the church from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday.
