Our loving mother, Clieve S. Mathis, age 90, died October 22, 1990 at her daughter's residence in Cedar City, Utah.

She was born September 28, 1900 in Loa to Enoch and Julia Dean Hayne Brian Sorenson. Married Karl Pace Mathis April 16, 1920 in the Salt Lake City and County Building. Marriage later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. He died July 17, 1982.Mrs. Mathis was a devoted wife and mother. She supported her husband in all church callings and vocational challenges. She centered her life around her husband, family, and church. She was active in the LDS Church, serving in the Primary, MIA and Relief Society. She was a wonderful hostess and homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and was an excellent cook. Mrs. Mathis welcomed and provided meals for conference visitors. Her husband served in the Stake Presidency as High Council Member and Bishop. She assisted him in all his responsibilities. Mrs. Mathis was a diligent worker. She was honest, maintained a non-judgemental and positive attitude her entire life. Mrs. Mathis especially enjoyed her family and grandchildren.

Survivors: daughters, Mrs. Neil (Donna) Chappell, Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. Garth (Connie) Nelson, Cedar City, Utah; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; brother, Jeppe Sorenson, Loa, Utah; sisters, Lola Anderson, Loa, Utah; Wanda Haycock and Ella Willardson, both Salt Lake City. Preceded in death by husband, Bishop Karl Pace Mathis; son, Hartland Kay Mathis; daughter, Mrs. Calvin (Shanna Rae) Durfey; brothers, Clifton Sorenson, Worth Sorenson; sisters, Zesta Dalley; Rue Brown and Luva Okerlund.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 25, 1990 at 1 p.m. in the Loa Stake Center, Loa, Utah. Friends may call two hours prior to services. Interment will be in the Loa City Cemetery under the direction of Spilsbury-Desert Rose Memorial Chapel, St. George-Hurricane, Utah.
