Voters in Gabon return to the polls Sunday for a partial rerun of the country's first multiparty parliamentary elections, which dissolved into chaos last month.

President Omar Bongo's election committee ordered a fresh ballot in 62 of the central African nation's 120 districts, where voting was deemed spoiled by gross irregularities or where no one won the required 50 percent of votes cast.Nearly 400 candidates are running. A second round of votes, pitting the two top candidates, will be held Oct. 28 in constituencies where no one gains a 50 percent mandate.
