The first phase of a rate case involving Utah Power & Light Co. will get under way before the Utah Public Service Commission Monday, Oct. 22.

The focus of the weeklong hearing will be the way UP&L's parent company, PacifiCorp, allocates revenues between UP&L and its sister company, Pacific Power & Light Co. This is the first merger-related case for UP&L since it was acquired by PacifiCorp in January 1989.While this phase will not in itself affect UP&L's rates, the information will play a key role in setting rates early next year.

A public witness day is scheduled Friday, Oct. 26, 10 a.m., to take comment from the general public concerning this phase of the hearing.

A second phase, tentatively scheduled for early spring, will focus on the company's actual rate structure and whether there should be a rate increase, decrease or no change.
