Jimmy Connors returned for the first time in nine years to conquer a much younger opponent on the same Indianapolis Sports Center court he dominated in the late 1970s.

It was a quick homecoming for Connors who disposed of South African Pieter Aldrich 6-2, 6-0 in 53 minutes Wednesday night at the U.S. Hardcourts tennis tournament.No. 5 seed John McEnroe, who has struggled trying to regain the form that earned him the world's top ranking from 1981-84, started slowly before beating Dan Cassidy 7-6 (7-2), 6-1.
