Dirk McBride was born with cystic fibrosis. Now, at age 25, he's married and a father.
McBride, West Valley City, has been accepted as a heart/lung transplant patient at Standford University. His family is seeking donations in order to pay for the $150,000 transplant operation.Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disease that causes recurrent lung infections. In the past, many cystic fibrosis patients weren't expected to live past their teens. Without a transplant, McBride's life expectancy is one to two years. Patients can wait six months to two years to receive donated organs.
