The Liberal Democratic Party, derided by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher just last week as a "dead parrot," is back in business after a stunning election upset over the Conservative Party.

"The parrot has twitched," Conservative Party Chairman Kenneth Baker said Friday of the Liberal Democrats' victory in a special parliamentary election in the south England town of Eastbourne. The centrist party, whose most famous member is John Cleese of "Monty Python" fame, posted a huge 20.5 percent swing against the government in Thursday's election to replace a legislator killed by the IRA.
