Vaughn Max Moffitt, 84, passed away October 17, 1990.
Born July 2, 1906 in Manti, Utah to Russell Layard and Ellice Madsen Moffit. Attended Manti High School and BYU. Very talented musician as a teenager. Played all over Utah in the finest orchestras of that time. Married Florence Patricia Baxter October 19, 1927 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was the featured artist in many orchestras of the big band era and later was the leader of his own band in many popular supper clubs in the city, being best known for his jazz talent. He later was a member with the Swanee Singers for 30 years. He retired in 1968 from Tooele Army Depot as a management analyst. He was an active member of the LDS Church serving as 1st Counselor in the bishopric in the Marlborough Ward. He was chorister in every ward that he was a member. He was a High Priest in the Cottonwood 16th Ward.He is survived by his wife, of 63 years, and two sons, Warren Gaylen Moffitt, St. George; Gerald Max Moffitt, Las Vegas; eight grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by brother, R. Easton Moffitt, 10 years ago.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 12:00 Noon, October 20, 1990 at the Cottonwood 16th Ward, 1750 Spring Lane (5000 South). Friends may call Friday evening 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive and Saturday at the ward one hour prior to services. Interment Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
