Bauer Financial Reports Inc., a Coral Gables, Fla., research firm, has awarded a five-star rating to Barnes Banking Co., Kaysville, identifying it as one of the safest and most credit-worthy banks in the country.

The award is based on a zero- to five-star rating assigned by BFR on its analysis of March 31, 1990, financial data filed with federal regulators.Paul A. Bauer, president, said the five-star rating means the bank's tangible capital exceeds 9 percent of tangible assets, there are no excessive delinquencies or repossessed assets and the bank is profitable.

Of the 12,592 banks reporting for the period ending March 31, 3,242 or 25 percent received the five-star rating. Each bank that qualified for the high rating received a free personalized award certificate to display.
