Thousands of Vietnamese lined the streets of Hanoi Wednesday to pay their respects to Le Duc Tho, the silver-haired statesman best known for his role in the Paris peace talks that ended the Vietnam war.

Vietnam's state radio said the funeral procession, accompanied by top Vietnamese leaders, made its way to the state Mai Dich cemetery, the resting place of many other of the country's dignitaries.Tho died of an unspecified illness on Saturday in Hanoi, three days after his 79th birthday.
