Utah County has reduced fees for adopting cats from the county animal shelter less than four months after the fees were increased.

Sheriff Dave Bateman asked the County Commission for the reduction Monday because he said the fees established in July were too high and kept people from adopting cats.During the months of July and August 1989 about 60 cats were adopted from the shelter. In July and August of this year only 11 cats were adopted. He said the animal shelter has had to euthanize more cats than usual.

The fees were reduced from $20 per animal to $10 for an adult cat and $3 for a kitten.
