The Utah County Commission has established two committees to make nominations for the offices of Utah County constable and Utah County Justice Court judge, positions no longer filled by election.

The commission set an application period for the offices and authorized the personnel department to advertise the vacancies and solicit applications. The application period for Justice Court judge ends Nov. 16 at 5 p.m. Applications for constables are being accepted today through Oct. 31.Justice Judge Vergil Peterson will continue to serve as the justice court judge until the first Monday in February. Peterson may apply for reappointment to the position.The Utah County Justice Court judge nominating committee consists of Commissioner Gary Herbert, 4th Circuit Judge E. Patrick McGuire, Craig Madsen, David Lamph and M. James Brady. The committee is to recommend three candidates to the County Commission by Dec. 7.

The Utah County constable nominating committee consists of Commissioner Sid Sandberg, 4th Circuit Judge Joseph Dimick, Deputy County Attorney Jeril Wilson, Sheriff Dave Bateman and Richard D. Bradford. The committee is to determine the number of constables to be appointed and nominate three candidates for each position. The committee is to make its recommendations to the County Commission by Nov. 23.
