Applications for Tracy Aviary's junior curator program are due by 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18.
The aviary is looking for eighth- through 11th-grade students with a particular aptitude and interest in the life sciences to participate in the program, which is basically a college-level class (Mondays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. starting Monday, Oct. 22, and continuing through the school year) in field biology.Instruction will touch upon most aspects of field biology and stress methods for investigating problems. There is no course fee, but students are asked to join Friends of Tracy Aviary ($10 annual dues) and perform two hours of voluntary work each week.
The program is limited to 10 students, with priority being given to older students who can demonstrate an aptitude and long-term interest in science. A reference letter from a science teacher acquainted with the student is strongly recommended.
