The Multi-Ethnic Housing Corp. of Salt Lake City will receive $2.98 million for housing the elderly or handicapped, according to Mike Chitwood, Housing and Urban Development regional administrator.

Sixty-five housing units for the non-elderly physically handicapped will be built in metropolitan areas of Utah.The program provides long-term direct loans to eligible, private, nonprofit sponsors to finance rental or cooperative-housing facilities for occupancy by elderly or handicapped persons. The interest rate is determined annually. Rental subsidies are available for all of the units.

Heads of the household must be at least 62 years old or be a qualified handicapped person age 18 to 62 to live in the structures.
