To protect delicate glassware from chipping in the dishwasher, leave space between items. Sometimes the force of the water causes glass items to bump into each other, resulting in chips or in cracks.
- To keep synthetic whites white and pastels pastel, be sure to separate them from bright or dark-colored garments before laundering. White and light-colored synthetics pick up dye from darker-colored clothing during washing.- If using chlorine bleach, it is best to add it four to five minutes after the start of the wash cycle. Adding it at this time allows the enzymes and optical brighteners in the laundry detergent time to work.
- Avoid mixing hand dishwashing detergents with chlorine bleach. Some formulations contain ingredients that are incompatible with chlorine and hazardous gases may be released.
