The former captain of England's national cricket squad has been fined a record $8,500 for publishing his version of an obscenity-riddled argument with a Pakistani umpire.
Mike Gatting, 31, had been warned by the body that administers the sport in England to delete the dispute from his autobiography, "Leading From The Front." The chapter dealing with England's losing tour in Pakistan last winter angered cricket officials by detailing the argument.Gatting's was fined Wednesday, just one day after being awarded an Order of the British Empire decoration by Buckingham Palace for his role in England's three-test victory over Australia in 1987.
He has 28 days to appeal the ruling.
Gatting resigned his captaincy in June after reports that he and other English players had entertained several women in their hotel one evening during a five-day test match against the West Indies.
