South Korean authorities have dismissed 130 out of 879 corrupt government officials investigated during the first half of this year, an Interior Ministry spokesman said Monday.

The spokesman said of those not dismissed, 41 were suspended from office and 708 were penalized with reduced salaries or reprimanded. The ministry's investigations included cases of bribery, influence-peddling and embezzlement.In the same period last year 635 officials were punished for corruption.
