Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower's legacy will be remembered through a new prize for young leaders in a variety of fields, former President Gerald Ford announced Saturday.
Ford, who will be one of the featured speakers Sunday at a ceremony marking the centennial of Eisenhower's birth, said the first Eisenhower Leadership Prize will be awarded a year from now."This award is not reserved exclusively for high-profile leaders," Ford said at a news conference, "but may be given to individuals who have not previously been recognized for their activities."
The $25,000 prize, to be administered by Gettysburg College, will be funded from an endowment to the college by an anonymous donor.
Each recipient will be asked to spend several days at the college lecturing on leadership, officials said.
