A dozen animal-rights activists were cited for leaving a designated protest area Saturday in a demonstration against Florida's annual Youth Deer Hunt.

About 80 demonstrators carrying signs and noisemakers marched for four hours outside the Camp Blanding Wildlife Management Area in northeast Florida, while the young hunters were inside.They were cited for failure to obey lawful order, a misdemeanor.

The annual deer hunt, staged to help parents and guardians teach children 8 to 15 to hunt safely, is sponsored by the state game commission.

Thirty-nine youngsters attended Saturday's hunt with their parents, taking two bucks and a doe. Three more hunts are scheduled this year.
