A Greenpeace ship that tried to inspect a northern nuclear test site was expelled from Soviet waters and is heading to Norway, the official Tass news agency said Saturday.
Ordering the M.V. Greenpeace to leave apparently ended the weeklong crisis without any charges being filed against the crew of the environmental ship.The M.V. Greenpeace, which was towed Wednesday from Novaya Zemlya test site to Murmansk, was "expelled from Soviet territorial waters after an investigation carried out by the public prosecutor's office and Frontier Guard troops," Tass said.
Soviet sailors seized the ship and its 28-person crew on Monday after the anti-nuclear activists sailed into the weapons testing site north of the Arctic Circle and four of them dropped into rubber dinghies to land on Novaya Zemlya.5 Sri Lanka villagers die in crossfire
