Silver prices rose Friday after hitting a 14-year low that some analysts said might have marked the bottom of a dramatic slide.

Silver settled 7 cents to 7.1 cents higher on New York's Commodity Exchange with the contract for spot delivery up 7.1 cents at $4.306 a troy ounce.Spot silver opened at $4.20 on the Commodity Exchange after tumbling as low as $4.05 overnight on overseas markets. The overnight price represented the metal's lowest price since 1976, when it hit $3.80.
