A 16-year-old Salt Lake boy was killed Friday night when he was run over by a car.
The boy, whose name has not been released, held on to the back bumper of the car while riding a skateboard. Witnesses said the boy attempted to maneuver around the side of the car while it accelerated, lost his balance and went under the rear tires.A 20-year-old friend of the boy was driving the car - a 1976 Chevy Nova - when the accident occurred. The car was traveling at about 20 mph when the boy fell from the skateboard, witnesses told Salt Lake County Sheriff's Deputy John Kimble.
Pioneer Valley spokeswomen said the 16-year-old died of "extensive head injuries" at the accident scene.
The death is the second in seven days involving a skateboard.
Jonathon Kunkel, 12, was killed when he was hit by a car Oct. 5 while attempting to retrieve his skateboard from 5600 West near 5600 South.
