The U.S. Department of Agriculture says a northern Utah meat packing company has reached settlement over administrative charges that it issued bad checks and lagged on payments to livestock suppliers in Utah and Idaho.

Parnell's Packing Co., of Laketown, Rich County, has agreed to a deal, including $2,500 in civil penal-ties and a cease and desist order against future violations, said Calvin Watkins, deputy administrator of the department's Packers and Stockyards Administration. However, the fine will be suspended so long as the firm complies with the order for five years, Watkins said.

Parnell's neither admitted nor denied guilt to administrative charges filed under the Packers and Stockyards Act.
