Anna Brotherson Hughes, 74, died Thursday, October 11, 1990 at Dixie Medical Center.

She was born April 15, 1916 at Bonita, Duchesne County, Utah to William Napier and Annie Burnside Brotherson. She married Archie E. Hughes June 13, 1939 at Moroni, Utah; the marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. Reared and educated in the Uintah Basin, Mrs. Hughes received her Masters degree from Utah State University. She also attended Snow College, Northern Arizona University, College of Southern Utah, and Brigham Young University. She came to Mesquite as a young teacher in 1937. She taught school for 30 years, mainly 1st grade. She was well known for her instinctive ability as a teacher and since her retirement has been a tutor and a substitute teacher. She was an active member of the LDS Church, where she has served in all the auxiliaries. Most recently she was serving as Gospel Doctrine teacher and visiting teacher coordinator. She was a great booster of the athletic teams of Virgin Valley High School. She could be seen at games cheering and supporting. She was especially proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.Surviving family members include her husband, Archie of Mesquite, Nevada; three sons and two daughters, Jimmie Hughes, Kelby Hughes, Lyle Hughes, Mrs. Merlyn (Tonya Ann) Bigelow, and Mrs. Bob (LeAnna Kay) Potter, all Mesquite, Nevada; also 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters, Blaine Brotherson, Talmage, Ut.; Ila Jean Tidwell, Mt. Pleasant; and Thelma Olsen, Moroni. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William (Bill) Brotherson; and Harold (Hal) Brotherson; and two grandchildren, Clinton Archie Hughes, and Jana Nicole Hughes.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 13, 1990, at 12 noon, Nevada time, at the Mesquite LDS Chapel, where friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and again on Saturday, from 10 a.m. until time of services. Interment will be in the Mesquite City Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary.
