A Provo woman escaped serious injury Wednesday when the van she was driving was destroyed by a Denver-Rio Grande train.

Provo police officer Bill Ennis said Pearl Baudro, 67, was crossing the train tracks at 700 W. 600 South when her van was struck behind the driver's door by the train at about 6:30 p.m.Ennis said the train was traveling at an estimated speed of 40 mph. Baudro was transported to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center where she was treated for cuts and bruises and released. There were no passengers in Baudro's van.
