The Consulting Engineers Council of Utah is accepting entries for its annual Engineering Excellence Awards competition to honor the most outstanding and innovative consulting engineering designs of 1989-90.

Winners of state competitions will be forwarded to the American Consulting Engineers Council for national competition where the top award, the Grand Conceptor, will be given. Other finalists will receive "grand" and "honor" awards.Entries will be accepted in one of eight categories including studies, research and consulting engineering services; buildings and structures; building support systems; energy production/conservation; environmental; water resources; transportation; and special projects.

To be eligible, projects must be designed by a consulting engineering firm and substantially completed and ready for use between Jan. 1, 1989, and Dec. 31, 1990.

Entries are judged by a panel of experts based on originality/innovation; new application of existing technology; technical value to the engineering profession; social/economic considerations; complexity; and meeting and exceeding the owner/client's needs.

The deadline for submission of entries is March 1, 1991. Judging will be be March 14-15 with an awards reception scheduled April 19 in Washington, D.C. More information can be obtained by calling Peggy Levie at 295-2081.
