Alan Frank & Associates, 1524 S. 1100 East, an advertising and public relations firm, is celebrating its 35th anniversary.
In September 1955, Alan Frank and Robert Thomas formed Frank & Thomas Advertising and opened a small office on Main Street. In 1975, they purchased the Kensington Building where the agency is located now.In the beginning, Frank convinced restaurant owner Pete Harman to allow the new agency to write and produce radio spots promoting his restaurants on 3900 South and State and in Sugar House.
Soon, Harman's Cafes became famous for Kentucky Fried Chicken and after Frank bought out his partner, Alan Frank & Associates became the first advertising agency for KFC. The agency relinquished the reigns in 1969 when KFC chose a national agency, Leo Burnett, to handle the account.
Frank continues to handle KFC on a regional basis, in addition to numerous other accounts ranging from golf courses, a bank, recreation areas, a realty company and a communications firm.
A member of KFC's national advertising committee from 1964-1979, Frank received the Distinguished Service Award at the KFC national convention in 1968.
