Piute handed Enterprise its second straight loss in a 1A state prep baseball championship game in as many years, with the T-birds downing the Wolves 10-6 for the 1990 crown.
Enterprise had won five straight 1A titles from from 1984 to 1988 before losing to Green River last year. Piute wins its first championship since '83.Piute pitcher Klyn Gleave, who pitched the final 22/3 innings in the T-birds' semifinal win against Rowland Hall, picked up his second tournament victory in as many games by scattering eight hits and striking out seven in seven innings.
Thanks to Enterprise miscues, Piute took a 3-0 lead in the first, with one run scoring on one of more than a half-dozen wild pitches by the Wolves and the second and third runs scoring on a fielding error.
Enterprise pitcher Danny Buchar drew the Wolves even at 5-all in the top of the fifth with his second home run of the game - this one a two-run shot.
But Piute answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.
